HouseProud’s Community Impact Days: Transforming Birmingham’s Neighborhoods in Districts 5, 6, and 9
At HouseProud, we believe in the power of community-driven change. For decades, we’ve worked to help seniors and veteran homeowners stay in their homes by providing critical repairs and beautification services. Now, thanks to incredible partnerships in Birmingham, we’re bringing this mission to life in new ways through Community Impact Days in Districts 5, 6, and 9.
With the support of Councilors Darrell O’Quinn (District 5), Crystal Smitherman (District 6), and LaTonya Tate (District 9), these events are transforming entire neighborhoods—one home at a time. Volunteers, sponsors, and community members are coming together to lift up Mason City, Sherman Heights, Wylam, and Proper and other historic Birmingham neighborhoods by repairing homes, enhancing public spaces, and creating a more vibrant and welcoming environment.
What is a Community Impact Day?
A Community Impact Day is a high-energy, hands-on volunteer event where teams of local businesses, corporate sponsors, and community members come together to make a tangible impact in a Birmingham neighborhood. Whether it’s painting a home, fixing a porch, landscaping a front yard, or installing accessibility features, every improvement makes a real difference in the lives of homeowners and the look and feel of the neighborhood.
House Proud is leading these projects, ensuring that all repairs are completed with quality craftsmanship, licensed contractors, and volunteers who are ready to serve. By the end of each event, homeowners not only have a more beautiful and functional home, but the entire block benefits from the renewed sense of community pride and investment.
Bringing Impact to Districts 5, 6, and 9
With leadership from Councilors O’Quinn, Smitherman, and Tate, our Community Impact Days are revitalizing homes and strengthening neighborhoods across Birmingham.
- District 5 (Councilor O’Quinn – Norwood & Surrounding Areas)
In District 5, we’re working to restore homes in the Norwood neighborhood, a historic district filled with long-time homeowners in need of critical repairs. Volunteers will tackle painting projects, landscaping improvements, and safety upgrades, helping seniors and veterans residents continue to age in place with dignity. - District 6 (Councilor Smitherman – Mason City & South Titusville) – This volunteer day is filled!
Mason City is the focus of our District 6 Community Impact Day, where HouseProud and volunteers will come together to lift up the neighborhood with much-needed home repairs, community clean-ups, and beautification efforts. This district-wide initiative ensures that vulnerable homeowners in Mason City get the help they need to remain in the homes they’ve built for generations. - District 9 (Councilor Tate – North Birmingham & Hooper City)
In District 9, we’re working to revitalize homes in North Birmingham and Hooper City, neighborhoods that have faced significant disinvestment over the years. Through volunteer labor, sponsorships, and community engagement, we’re ensuring that long-time residents receive the repairs and support they need to continue calling these communities home.
